How To Make Money As A Creative

Are you a creative looking for a side hustle? Thanks to the internet, there has never been a better time to utilise your creativity for extra money. Making money online has become easier by the day. Even for creatives. You might not be an expert in your field, but it doesn’t matter. You have to start somewhere and horn your skills as you go.

How To Make Money As A Creative

Creativity comes in many forms; you could be a painter, a storyteller, a photographer, and many more. What I have seen people sell on the internet as part of creative work always leaves me wishing I could pull some of these works. But I cannot, sadly. So, here are a few options I have seen that can help you as accretive bring in extra income from a side hustle.

1. Sell Online

We all know that the internet has become an integral part of our lives. You can get literally anything you want. Most shoppers either shop fully online or do window-shopping online to compare prices and customer service.

If you already have products to sell, you can start by getting a website for your business. However, websites are a tad bit demanding to maintain and manage for some individuals. That’s where having a presence on social media sites like Instagram and Facebook comes in. You can start posting your products online and advertise to reach potential customers.

Second, you can list your products on online marketplaces. These are websites with numerous sellers where one can upload their products and services, allowing buyers to find them easily and compare what they offer with other sellers in one place. One of these websites is Eneo Hii Listings. It is a startup in Kenya that is working towards creating an unparalleled shopping market for shoppers looking for goods and services from creatives in Africa. Other such marketplaces include Canva, Etsy, Behance, Envato, and Creative Market, just to name a few.

What can you sell online? This could range from physical products that you could ship to your buyers to digital assets like fonts, photographs, printables and other downloadables.

2. Creating Online Courses

Would you love to teach your craft? There are people out there looking to learn a new skill, whether for money or as a hobby. That’s where you come in. online learning platforms have gained traction in the past few years, from Udemy to Coursera and Skillshare. Other platforms, like Patreon, Youtube and Vimeo, are also excellent for hosting your courses and How To’s content. Each of these avenues allows you to monetise your content as you wish.

3. Working On Freelance

If your creative work involves selling a service, like graphic designs and creative writing, you can sell your services on freelancing sites. This allows you to set your preferred selling price and working schedule, and you even get to choose the clients you wish to work with.

The world is a global village, now more than ever before. So companies, even those on other continents, realise outsourcing work from freelancers gives them the flexibility of hiring, choosing from a vast pool of workers and even saving them some buck while at it.

Freelance sites like Upwork and Fiverr are an excellent start. While setting up your profile and services might be easy, getting the first client might not. It might happen almost instantly, or you could spend a few months before getting even one client. The key is to keep an open mind, leave your work out there and hope for the best. It is better to try than not to, right?
